2022 wedding flower trends

5/20/2021

With 2022 wedding couples booking us earlier than normal, we are getting a little sneak peek into what 2022 weddings will look like. While some of them may not surprise you, others just might! Here are some of the trends we are seeing with our 2022 wedding couples and their wedding flowers.
Picture
Pampas Grass (and other dried florals)

This boho fluffy dried grass has been taking the floral world by storm and is still gaining traction for the 2022 season. Nearly 1/4 of our 2022 wedding couples are incorporating pampas grass into their flowers. Some of our favorite uses for pampas grass include full lush arbors, large aisle markers and pops of the smaller plumes in bouquets and centerpieces. Not sure what other flowers to pair with these showstoppers? Try toffee roses, straw flower, rice flower, dahlias, hypericum berries, eucalyptus, green huckleberry, bunny tail grass, and bleached ruscus.
The best part about adding in some pampas grass and dried florals is that after your wedding they are already preserved and can be immediately put into a shadow box or resin to be preserved as a memory of your wedding bouquet.

Cascading Bouquets

Cascading bouquets are back baby! But not exactly like your mother's bouquet in the 80's. These cascading bouquets are bigger, they are softer and more flowy than ever. We are seeing a lot of colorful cascades with some evening showcasing a color gradient from top to bottom. There are just a  few things we want to note about these stunning bouquets. They are HEAVY. No, like really really heavy compared to other bouquets. They also need to be held properly for photos otherwise you may have some pretty unflattering photos of your bouquet. Fear not though because on wedding day we give you an in-depth tutorial on how to properly hold and handle your bouquet. You know what they say, beauty is pain. And this pain, is one that is well worth enduring!
Picture
Anemones

Anemones have always been a pretty popular wedding flower for us but with all of our most recent 2022 quote including them we think they are starting to trend for 2022. These unique flowers are best suited for the spring time as they enjoy cooler weather but can be imported nearly year round. The black center tends to pull navy in some lights so they are a wonderful addition to bouquets for couple who want a pop of true navy.
We know you love the look of them in boutonnieres but can we just tell you how delicate these babies are. One hug and they start to not look their best.
Picture
Greenery Garlands

Greenery garlands and runners are another strong trend that we are seeing with 2022 couples. Though, this may not surprise you as it's been a trend for the last few years. Don't let these greenery only centerpieces fool you though, they are not as cheap as you may think. A traditional hand tied greenery garland with eucalyptus and other mixed greeneries cost anywhere from $22/ft to $36/ft. For a standard 8' farmhouse table that is around $176-$288 per table. To put that into perspective, you could have a stunning flowy garden centerpiece for that same price in a silver or gold compote vase.
While there are other more affordable options like greenery runners where the greenery is loose laid on the table, they can still cost the same as a more traditional flower centerpiece. A loose laid eucalyptus and ruscus greenery runner with medium cover typically ranges anywhere from $65 - $105 per table.

Yellow Flowers

One of Pantone's 2021 colors of the year was "Illuminating". While at first we were not so certain about this bright bold yellow, we have grown to love it. It's certainty not for the faint of heart but when used as a pop of color in a fall bouquet or all white bouquet they are incredible. The yellow ranunculus we have featured here is one of our favorites. We are also finding that couples are loving Billy Balls, Butterfly Ranunculus, Spray Roses and Peonies in this color.
If bright yellow isn't your thing then try a mustard yellow or maybe even a creamy butter yellow. We promise we won't steer you wrong!
Did any of these trends surprise you? Are there any trends you'll be participating in for your 2022 nuptials? Leave us a comment below of your favorite 2022 wedding flower trend.

10 Must Have Spring Wedding Flowers

3/18/2021

Let's talk about the 10 must-have spring wedding flowers for 2021 and 2022 wedding couples. We not only LOVE these flowers but practically use them in every spring wedding. Much like the #bouquetbreakdowns, we will give you the flowers' names, some quick facts, their availability, and their price range on a scale of $ to $$$$$. Plus as a bonus, we will include a photo of each flower for your reference next to its description.
Picture
Peony

The peony is certainly one of the most requested and highly sought-after wedding flowers. While you can get them *nearly* year-round, spring is their time to shine! Peonies come in a variety of colors from white, pinks, yellows, coral, and even a deep red/burgundy. Along with the huge variety of colors, peonies also offer a huge variety of bloom styles. Double petal or bomb style peonies are the most common varieties used in wedding work. However, we find single petal and semi-double peonies are just as gorgeous. With all the different colors and petal styles, you might be thinking wow that's a lot to go through. Lucky for you knowing the perfect peony for your special day is our job! Peony prices can vary greatly depending on the size, color, and variety. Most peonies typically run $$$-$$$$$ out of $$$$$ on the expense scale.

Picture
Ranunculus

The ranunculus flower is another highly sought-after wedding flower. While yes, you can get these flowers year-round. We find that spring brings the best local options for both size and color. Ranunculus are available in a huge spectrum of color. The most popular being white, blush, pink, coral, peachy apricot, yellow, and burgundy. Japanese growers have a designer series of ranunculus that are to die for! While they are twice the price of the classic ranunculus, the heads are much larger, full, and come in some stunning colors and patterns. We give classic ranunculus a $$$ out of $$$$$ on the expense scale.
Picture
Anemones

Anemones are a very unique flower that blooms in the spring and probably the most eye-catching flower on our list. Anemones are very sensitive to light and heat. They will fully close up in the night and then fully reopen again in the morning when the sun comes back out. Their dark black centers appear to be almost navy in the light. For this reason, we find couples like to use them as a pop of navy in a bouquet to match the groom's suit. Anemones come in white, pink, purple, burgundy/wine, blue, and a few more "enhanced" colors. We give anemones a $$$ out of $$$$$ on the expense scale.
Picture
Stock

Stock is often used as a filler flower but we think it may deserve a little more of a title than that. Stock has a beautiful clove scent and is considered a line flower. This means the bloom grows in a linear fashion instead of a ball. Stock comes in a large variety of colors from white, blush, salmon, peach, lavender, deep purple, magenta, and light yellow.  While stock is available year-round, we love to use it in spring weddings because of its soft pastel colors. We give stock a $$ out of $$$$$ on the expense scale.
Picture
Garden Roses

Garden Roses are another flower that are available year-round but really shine in the spring when mixed with other soft and romantic seasonal blooms. Some of our favorite varieties to use in the spring are David Austin Juliet Roses, Tsumugi Warbara Roses, Princess Maya Roses, and Golden Mustard Roses. Garden roses are often distinguished from regular roses due to their beautiful scent and bloom structure. They have more petals than a traditional rose and are often have a larger bloom aperture. Garden Roses can vary in price depending on the specific variety, their demand, and the farm where they come from. For that reason, we give garden roses a $$$-$$$$$ out of $$$$$ on the expense scale.
Picture
Tulips

Tulips might be the most notable of the spring flowers on this list. They are often one of the first things to bloom in the spring. Tulips come in virtually every color and even a few different petal styles. The traditional single-color tulip is by far the most widely available and often used. However, growers are starting to offer more unique double tulips, peony tulips, parrot tulips, and fringed tulips. This peony here would be considered a parrot tulip due to its feathery-edged petals. Vermont offers some of the best tulip farms in the united states and for that reason, we always prefer local blooms. Tulips can vary in price depending on their variety. Single tulips are the most cost-effective and we would rate them $ out of $$$$$ on the expense scale. The double, peony, parrot and fringed edged tulips can run anywhere from $$-$$$ out of $$$$$ on the expense scale.
Picture
Butterfly Ranunculus

Butterfly ranunculus are related to the other ranunculus above but have a little different growth habit and bloom structure. Butterfly ranunculus often have multiple heads per stem and are visually a much lighter flower on the eye.  We often use them as flowy flowers or dancing flowers in a bouquet. They give wonderful movement to any and all arrangements. They are often confused with cosmos flowers. We can totally see why though. Much like the other ranunculus, they are available in a wide variety of colors. We give butterfly ranunculus $$$ out of $$$$$ on the expense scale.
Picture
Sweet Peas

Sweet peas are another wonderful locally grown early spring flower. Their delicate and soft nature is great for adding a touch of femininity to a bouquet or adding in some movement. They are available in nearly every color, even those hard to find blue tones!  Ardelia Farms in Barton, Vermont grows and sells over 70 different varieties of sweet peas. Told you there were a lot of different color options. Another thing to note is that sweet peas smell like heaven. If you are looking to add some soft fragrance to your bouquet, I would certainly think about sweet peas. We give sweet peas a $$$ out of $$$$$ on the expensive
Picture
Hellebores

Hellebores are often the first sign of spring as they tend to bloom when there is still snow on the ground. These extremely cold-tolerant flowers are the perfect addition to your spring wedding bouquet. They often have larger downward-facing blooms with the most beautiful patterns. Hellebores are best picked when the small seed heads start to form from the yellow center. Hellebores can be a very fragile flower and must be properly conditioned before their use in wedding work. It is important to keep in mind that hellebores are toxic to humans and pets so they should be kept away from anyone that might try to snack on them. Due to their delicate nature and conditioning process hellebore can be on the more expensive side of wedding flowers. However, we think they are so worth it! We give hellebores a $$$-$$$$$ on the expensive scale.
Picture
Astilbe

Astilbe is another flower that we LOVE to use in spring wedding work. While technically they would be considered more of a summer-blooming wedding flower, we think their softness pairs best with the springtime flowers. Just like stock, astilbe is considered a line flower due to its vertical bloom. Astilbe unlike most flowers require mostly shade to grow and thrive in moist soil.  Astilbe is available in white, blush, pink and red/burgundy. We give astilbe $$$ out of $$$$$ on the expense scale.
I know what you're thinking, but what about daffodils?! Well, to be honest, daffodils do not play nice with others. When a daffodil is cut the stem secretes a milky substance that can poison other flowers and actually kill them. For that reason we skipped them in our 10 must have spring flowers for your wedding. However, if you are dead set on having them in your bouquet we do have a few work arounds to incorporate them.

Trending Wedding Flowers for 2021

With 2021 wedding consultations in full swing, we thought we would breakdown some of our favorite trending color palettes and flowers for this upcoming season. These popular flowers and color palettes are pulled directly from our consultations and bookings for 2021. From bright pops of color to the simple white and green we are here to break it down for you. We will start with our three base color palettes and then add in some popular touches to switch them up a tiny bit.

White and Greenery:

Does this one really surprise anyone? The classic white and green color palette is timeless. It is elegant, luxurious, and screams bridal. This color palette can be used for rustic barn nuptials, upscale ballroom weddings,  adventurous elopements, lakeside intimate ceremonies, and more. It can be dressed up or down and still looks absolutely amazing.

Here are some of our favorite white flowers: Peonies, Playa Blanca and Snowy Jewel Standard Roses, David Austin Ella and Patience Garden Roses, Dahlias, Lisianthus, Ranunculus, Tulips, Stock, Mums, Statice, Carnations, Hydrangeas, Snap Dragons, and Anemones. Some of these flowers are not available year-round but are still our favorites to use during their perspective seasons.

Our favorite greeneries? You already know from our bouquet breakdowns that we are obsessed with all things eucalyptus. Some other amazing greeneries that we love are Italian ruscus, Israeli ruscus, Olive greenery, Leatherleaf fern, and Salal.

Maybe you love the white and greenery look but want to spice it up a bit? Here are two spin-off floral mood boards that we have seen become very popular for 2021 weddings.

  • White, Blush, and Greenery.
This soft feminine spin on the white and green trend is so beautiful. It gives you a tiny pop of color while still giving you that white bridal feel. The soft touches of pink enhance your bouquet that much more when placed up against your white dress in photos. We especially love this color palette for spring weddings. There is nothing better than some blush tulips making their first appearance on a warm sunny spring day. Some of our favorite flowers to use as pops of blush are Spray Roses, Garden Roses, Ranunculus, Veronica, Stock, Tulips, Astilbe, and Lisianthus.

  • White, Dusty Blue, and Greenery.
Adding in pops of blue has become increasingly popular after Pantone announced classic blue as it's 2020 color of the year. While some couples opt for a more bright blue or royal blue, our couples seem to be leaning more towards a dusty blue to pair with their navy suits and dresses. True blue flowers are very rare in nature and often are more of a purple hue than a true blue. By far our number one go-to when adding in pops of blue is Thistle. It is a super unique flower and is unlike any other bloom we have ever encountered. Some other great blue flowers are Delphiniums, Hydrangeas, and Tweedia.

Would you opt for this super popular white and greenery palette or would you sneak in some blush or dusty blue?

Blush and Burgundy:

Blush and Burgundy is another tried and true color palette that just doesn't seem to go away. We most often find wedding couples opting for this color palette in the fall and winter. Don't let that discourage you if you have a spring or summer wedding, we have also seen some fun twists on this palette to match those seasons as well.

But first, a rundown of our favorite blush and burgundy flowers. Blush: Peonies, Standard Roses, Tsumugi Warbara Garden Roses, David Austin Keira Garden Roses, Spray Roses, Ranunculus, Veronica, Stock, Astilbe, Lisianthus, Hypericum Berries, and Alstromeria. Burgundy: Hearts Garden Roses, Black Magic Standard Roses, Hypericum Berries, Amaranthus, Amenomes, Ranunculus, Astilbe, Mums, Pom Mums, and Dahlias.

Love the contrast between the light pink and deep burgundy tones but want to spice it up a bit? Here is another palette we see wedding couples requesting for 2021.

  • Blush, Burgundy, and Peach.
At first, you may think peach? That is a little odd. But hear us out, we promise it is worth it! The peach adds another layer of color to your bouquet giving it more depth and more interest. Some of our favorite peach flowers to add are David Austin Juliette Garden Roses, Campanella Garden Roses, Shimmer Standard Roses, Hypericum Berries, Stock, Lisianthus, and Ranunculus.

Would you opt for the most common blush and burgundy or would you spice it up with some peach?

Wildflower:

Last but certainly not least, is the wildflower palette. This color palette is so versatile and really stunning in the late spring thru early summer when the local flowers are all in bloom. The bright cheery tones of the flowers always liven up a wedding and leave guests smiling. The best part about the wildflower palette is that if you book early enough with us we are more than happy to grow specific flower varieties just for you and your special day in our cut flower gardens.

This color palette is packed with bright yellows, pinks, lavenders, apricots, blues, and more. This is the quintessential everything but the kitchen sink bouquet. Some of our favorites to include in this color palette is Yellow Billy Balls, Light Blue Delphiniums, Blue Thistle, Pink Dahlias, Pink Celosia, Lavender Stock, Purple Gomphrena, Apricot Zinnas, Peach David Austin Garden Roses, Watermelon Ranunculus.

Out of all three trending color palette for 2021 wedding flowers which do you find yourself most attracted to?
